Spoken Word


Spoken word program that is open for all students from grade 6-12 and supports beginner, intermediate and advanced level writers.  It builds confidence and relationships while addressing themes such as: social justice, equity, bullying and relevant topics affect today’s youth. Our instructors teach spoken word theories, character development, speech, creative writing and stage awareness.

What to expect
Spoken word is powerful oral tradition used to lead audiences through tales of history, love, pain and happiness – tales that come alive because of the people who perform them. This program is designed for aspiring novelists, poets or essayists, in both the fiction or non-fiction genres. Scribe focuses on narrative styles, plots and characters using fundamental poetry and writing elements, such as: similes, metaphors, stanza, form, rhythm, rhyme and much more.  Through this program students are able to develop and find their own voice and style.

Program Requirements

  • Students Grade 9 and up
  • Dedicated program space suitable for program’s goals
