Giving youth a voice is an essential part of community radio, and one radio show that did just that was produced by youth and aired every Sunday in the 1990s on The Caribbean Crucible with Luther Brown (senior) on CHRY 105.5 FM. This show provided a platform for young people from the community to express their opinions, share their stories, and highlight issues that mattered to them.

The first episode that aired on the first Sunday in 1993 featured the talented Jully Black, who as a teen voiced her concern about the lack of support for Toronto artists. The intro of the show features Jully singing, and if you listen closely, you can also hear Luther Brown Jr.’s voice. This show was a powerful example of the impact that can be made when youth are given the opportunity to have their voices heard on the airwaves.
