Lights, music, and the thrill of the night – there’s something extraordinary about Friday evenings, especially when you’re in Toronto. And now, there’s an event that’s set to make those Friday nights even more incredible. We’re talking about the Hangar Skate Nights, where the Hangar runway is transformed into a hub of excitement. But here’s the kicker: it’s not just about skating; it’s also about music, culture and family; and we’ve got something special in store for high school student DJs. Starting in January 2024, you have the opportunity to take the stage and DJ alongside some of Toronto’s biggest names in the industry. It’s your time to shine, and the spotlight is waiting for you!

When and Where:

• When: Fridays on January 19 – March 15, 2024
• Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

What’s Happening:

• The Hangar Skate Nights: FREE Family skate nights at The Hangar
• Professional DJ: Each Friday night, a seasoned professional DJ will set the stage, ready to get the party started with some incredible tracks.
• Student DJ Submission Contest: High school students, this is your time to shine! Submit your mix and grab the chance to perform live alongside the pros. It’s your moment in the spotlight!
• Live Broadcasts with VIBE105: VIBE105, your go-to source for Hip Hop, R&B, and The Culture, will be there to broadcast the event live. This means your music could reach thousands of ears!
• Hot Drinks and & Cool Things: Don’t forget to stop by the JBG Booth. They’re serving up warm drinks, offering cool event merchandise, and providing a chance to engage with the artists. It’s all about creating an unforgettable experience!

Our goal is to bring the community together for a night of music and celebration. We want to foster collaboration between aspiring and experienced DJs, creating incredible music and learning experiences. Additionally, we aim to spotlight the outstanding local talent within our community, building a stronger sense of unity through the magic of music.

Contest Rules:

1. Eligibility:

• To participate in the High School Student DJ Contest, you must be a currently enrolled high school student.

2. Submission Period:

• Submissions will open on November 30th and close on Jan 12th 2024.

3. Mix Requirements:

• Prepare a 15-20 minute mix in any genre of your choosing. Show us your unique style and creativity through your music.

4. Online Submission:

• Complete the online submission form below.
• You can submit your mix via YouTube, Soundcloud, or podcast links. Ensure the link is accessible for review.

5. Bio and Photo:

• Along with your mix, include a brief bio that tells us about yourself and your passion for music.
• Provide a clear, high-resolution photo of yourself.

6. Single Submission:

• Each student DJ may submit only one mix for consideration. Make it count!

7. Submission Review:

• Your mix submissions will be reviewed by a panel of students based on the following criteria (suggested criteria):
  • Creativity and originality
  • Technical skills and mixing ability
  • Track selection and flow
  • Overall presentation and crowd engagement potential

8. Winner Announcement:

9. Live DJ Set:

• If you are selected as a winning student DJ, you must be available to perform live on the following dates: February 23, March 1, and March 8, 2024 6pm – 7pm
• Your live DJ set will be approximately 1 hour in length, so prepare to keep the party going!
