Get ready for an awesome summer adventure at the Just BGRAPHIC & YAAACE Summer Arts Academy! If you’re in grade 6 or above, we’ve got an exciting FREE 7-week program just for you. It’s all about unleashing your creativity, thinking critically, and expressing yourself through the arts. And guess what? We’re putting a spotlight on amazing Canadian Black artists!
Our academy is here to take you on a journey through history and the world of contemporary art. We want to help you develop your artistic skills, expand your thinking, and let your creative juices flow. We’ve got six awesome program streams to choose from: Dance, Visual Arts, Spoken Word/Song Writing, Fashion, and Digital Arts/Gaming.
Each program stream is packed with fun and engaging activities. You’ll have three sessions per week for two weeks, giving you plenty of time to dive deep into your chosen art form. And just when you’re getting into the groove, we’ll switch things up with a brand new theme every two weeks. In the Dance stream, for example, you’ll explore different styles like Hip Hop, Caribbean, and African dance. We’ll make sure each workshop builds on what you’ve learned before, so you can grow as an artist.
But it’s not just about the art. At Just BGRAPHIC, we’re all about challenging the status quo and embracing diversity. We believe in decolonizing arts education by shining a spotlight on the voices, experiences, and contributions of the BIPOC community. By celebrating different perspectives and histories, we create an inclusive space where you can explore your own identity and artistic potential.

JBG x YAAACE Collab
This year’s collaboration between Just BGRAPHIC and YAAACE is not just a major milestone for us, but also for the Jane Finch Community. Let’s take a moment to learn more about YAAACE and why this partnership is so special.
YAAACE, or the Youth Association for Academics, Athletics, and Character Education, has been making a positive impact since its founding in 2007. This incredible organization, led by the Black community, aims to engage children and youth from all backgrounds, especially those from marginalized and under-resourced communities. They offer comprehensive year-round programming in academics, athletics, recreation, technology, and the arts.
YAAACE has a powerful mandate: to help children and youth build their skills and capacity, empowering them to become 21st-century learners and global citizens. They believe in using a social inclusion framework to create opportunities for participants to access academic activities, boost their self-confidence, and develop a strong sense of self-identity.
Their core values of Awareness, Advocacy, Accountability, Action, and Access guide everything they do. By promoting these values, YAAACE ensures that children and youth grow, learn, and play in an environment that is responsive to their needs, interests, expectations, and aspirations.
Now, with Just BGRAPHIC joining forces with YAAACE, we’re bringing together two specialists in their fields to provide the Jane Finch Community with an incredible blend of arts and athletic enriched programming. Not only that, but these programs are thoughtfully tied to the curriculum, giving students a well-rounded and enriching experience.
It’s an exciting time for the community as we come together to uplift and empower our young people. Through this collaboration, we’re opening doors to new opportunities and creating a positive impact that will be felt for years to come.
